A Lot of Work and a Short Amount of Time

I thought I had another year to prepare for a show. I was wrong. Saturday I went and picked up some work from a group show at a local gallery. I was talking to the Director about some other stuff and then she mentioned that she was going to have me on the schedule for the 2009-2010 season and that she would visit my studio in May to pick out the work for the show. Right now all I have are digital files. What I would really like to do with these images is print them around 4ft in size on canvas. Unfortunately that is something I cannot afford to do right now. I have been thinking about how I could display them and I have a few ideas. I guess I will be working on those ideas a little sooner then I thought. To be continued......

The Show: Polaroid 600

Artist Statement:

This series of images reflects my love of experimenting. I have created a unique representation of the subject matter in a more abstract, surreal manner. To accomplish this I used Polaroids, a flatbed scanner and a computer. Nature, landscape and still life are my subject matter.

In creating my images I take the Polaroid, pull the backing off, rub off the white background and make scratches on the film. I then put the Polaroid in the scanner and scan the image into the computer. The image you see is what my flatbed scanner has interpreted. The only computer manipulations I have made are with levels, brightness and contrast and use of a rubber stamp tool. Though these images began as a static subject, I have made them dynamic and full of explosive energy in this process.

I really like the way you experimented with the photos. They really turned out good. I've never tried something like that before, it sounds very interesting.
